At 8.30pm on Saturday March 26th, 2011, the world will unite once again in recognition of Earth Hour. Millions of people around the globe will be switching the lights off for energy conservation and global sustainability. Join in this awesome green gesture but don't just sit around in a dark room. Here's how you can put your Earth Hour to good use:

• Look up! The night sky looks completely different when it's not obscured by light pollution.
• Write out a pledge to complete green actions this year. Remember to sign it!
• Slip into a candle-lit bath, meditate or have a tai-chi or yoga session.
• Compose a letter to someone you haven't talked to in a while, write it on paper now even if you plan on sending it by email later.
• Enjoy a candle-lit dinner or put a blanket on the floor and turn it into a picnic.
• Gather family or friends for a game of Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Sorry! or Candy Land.
• Invite your favourite storytellers over for some good wine and ghost tales.
• Grab the acoustic guitar and play songs from your favourite environmentalist musician.
• Use the WWF Earth Hour app to automatically "turns off the light" in your profile pic. 

Wherever you find yourself during Earth Hour, encourage your host or those around you to flick off the light switches, and if they're daring to also turn off their phones, computers or any other electronics. Make a mini event out of it and one hour will fly by. You may not even care to turn the lights back on right away. Happy Earth Hour!
