Saturday's Media Swap

Sep 28th 2009, 20:03, by Swapsity

This past Saturday, September 26th brought a crisp promise of Autumn and lots of new items for our media Swap Meet. The goal was simple, participants were asked to bring a few books, CDs, DVDs or Blu-rays and in return could take home the same number of items that they contributed. Each person was able to rid themselves of items they no longer wanted and carry home a stack of new additions to their book and media libraries.

When the doors opened, swappers dropped off a wealth of books, CDs and DVDs on the tables. At 3pm, everyone was invited to start picking up the items they wanted to take home. Some very generous attendees came with more items than they could carry and only took back a few special treasures. Talk about de-cluttering! Among the 200 plus items that were swapped that day, a table and a half of non-fiction books and over 70 brand new DVDs were snapped up early on. In fact, we didn't seen one participant leave without a pile of new books, films or CDs under their arm and a smile on their face. Most were happy to save money by swapping and pleasantly surprised by the quality of items they received. One sweet toddler scored a nearly new Leapfrog electronic reading set in a backpack, others took home Malcolm Gladwell's books (The Tipping Point, Blink) and Elizabeth Gilbert's acclaimed Eat Pray Love. Left over items were donated to the church library, though we did get a keen family of five that picked up some children's storybooks while we were packing up. In the end, we garnered an enthusiastic crowd of book and media lovers who clearly embraced the spirit of community and green living.

Roxanne contributed a big pile of media and left with some fabulous finds.

Al and his son snapped up the Leapfrog reading set. Smart choice!

One savvy swapper brought in a stack of definite crowd pleasers.

A sea of non-fiction books were the hot topic of our media swap.
