A Summer Swap and Sale Extravaganza

Sep 3rd 2010, 12:58, by Swapsity

This past Saturday was certainly a garage sale kind of day. The sun was out in full force; so were the eco-conscious consumers and thrifty shoppers. It was a fantastic day for Swapsity members to meet up for the Ultimate Garage Sale and Media Swap Meet.

Vendors and visitors started lining up as early as 8am - 2 hours early - just to be the first through the doors. By about 10:30am the vendors were set up and ready to greet the eager crowd of eco-conscious shoppers and swappers.

Swappers could be seen mingling among the tables of books, CDs and DVDs while they kept a keen eye out for new gems. The garage sale vendors had a great time meeting each other and their customers. Chalk it up to the sunny weather or the positive attitudes but whatever the cause, the event was undoubtedly upbeat.

The tables were a smorgasbord! Books, CDs, kid's items, jewellery, kitchen ware, home decor, t-shirts and video games were laid out on the tables like an endless feast of recycled items. One table, piled high with children's items, was where a bright-eyed little girl scooped up a cap and a yellow ducky laundry basket. She even got a kid-size Reiki treatment from Bella, our resident holistic and natural healing expert. Another table was filled edge-to-edge with boxes of CDs and was an easy favourite for shoppers, many walked away with more than one new treasure.

Swaps included, tarot card readings for wallets; a purse for some candles and just under 250 items swapped in the Book, CD and DVD swap meet.

Swappers earned some eco-karma by swapping their media libraries item-for-item and allowing leftovers to be donated to the church library. Among the sales, swaps, trades or freebie transactions, the participants were all in high spirits and glad to see hundreds of items swapped and recycled toward new homes.
