At the heart of Swapsity is our vision to help Canadians build a more collaborative, sustainable and consumption-conscious lifestyle though a peer-to-peer swapping economy.

Problem

Canadians are facing economic and environmental challenges. The average Canadian is a whopping $26,000 in debt, excluding mortgages. Locked into the habit of buying new things--often purchasing them now and paying later--we throw ourselves into spiralling debt with an estimated $2,000 worth of clutter per household and an ever-increasing environmental footprint.

Solution

Swapsity is spearheading the collaborative consumption movement in Canada--a phenomenon marked by an explosion in swapping, sharing, bartering, lending and gifting. By nurturing a vibrant and modern swapping economy and growing a bigger community of swappers throughout Canada, we seek to empower Canadians every day. Swapping complements our existing monetary economy and is already a popular way for countries and corporations worldwide to get what they need. It is estimated that about 65% of Fortune 500 companies engage in barter. Swapsity seeks to make barter accessible to Canadians through an innovative peer-to-peer community and swap events. We aim to create more win-win swapping opportunities, thereby helping swappers save money, reduce their environmental footprint and connect with like-minded people.

Participation

Swapsity seeks to provide all Canadians with easy access to a swapping community rich in goods and services. Canadians can participate in the swap-conomy online or face-to-face in one or more of the following ways:

  • Swapping goods and services online through our website
  • Creating a swap group for your office, neighbourhood or community
  • Participating in our swap meets
  • Hosting a swap party with our help
  • Attending our workshops or events
  • Running a swap auction through Swapsity
  • Initiating your own swap project (see example)
